Job Summary:
You will support the development and test of new camera products based on SIONYX’s ground-breaking ultra-low light image sensors. Your electrical engineering design skills, troubleshooting and failure analysis skills will drive the continuous improvement of SIONYX products.
Critical to the role is rapidly learning new camera designs. This is an engineering role and therefore you must be comfortable doing direct design and hands-on work. You will work closely with SIONYX engineering and operations teams to ensure that designs and manufacturing processes result in world-class camera products. You will also interact directly with customers to understand and resolve any electrical issues they have encountered.
You must be a hands-on engineer, well versed in mixed-signal circuits and comfortable working in the laboratory environment. You will demonstrate breadth in your technical knowledge, precision in your communication, and thoroughness in your documentation process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Schematic capture and layout tools for circuit board design
- Understanding and implementing designs from technical drawings
- Knowledge of SW/HW interfaces including imaging sensors, displays, batteries, buttons and other camera peripheral devices
- Debug and failure analysis of camera hardware and/or firmware, through the use of built-in diagnostics, electrical probing / testing, and working with 3rd party FA vendors
- Designing and implementing test procedures to evaluate new electronics hardware
- Testing electronics for problems and proposing solutions
- Supporting reliability and accelerated lifetime testing
- Repair and/or modification of electronic circuits
- Soldering for small components
- Interface with operations team to drive continuous improvement
- Interacting with customers to understand their requirements and any issues or failures
- Communicating to customers progress, challenges, and risk mitigation
- Creating product documentation and records using standard software tools as well as Excel, Powerpoint and Word
Qualifications:
- Schematic capture and layout of mixed-signal circuit boards and flex cables
- Working knowledge of electronics test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and logic analyzers
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing electronic systems at the component level
- Proficiency with measurement equipment and techniques, both analog and digital
- Proficiency soldering surface mount components
- Knowledgeable in design of low-power, low-noise circuits a plus
- Experience designing camera systems a plus
- Experience with MIPI, i2c, SPI and similar protocols a plus
- Ability to travel
- Strong technical and communication skills, with relationship-building capabilities
- Interpersonal skills to work well within a team environment during the manufacturing process to ensure plans are correctly implemented
- Strong speaking skills to clearly explain reasoning and designs to provide instructions during development and production
- Strong writing skills to develop technical publications, including design methods documents, product proposals, parts lists, operation manuals and maintenance manuals related to the equipment created
- Initiative and drive to complete tasks quickly and efficiently
- Concentration to keep track of several design elements and technical characteristics when designing and developing electronic products and components
- Organized and methodical record-keeping skills a must
Education and Experience:
- BA or MS in Electrical Engineering
- 4-7 years’ experience in relevant hardware systems
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Ability to travel domestically and Internationally
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at time
